13 Must-Know Italian YouTubers for Learning Italian

Welcome! You are now ready to learn Italian by delving into the exciting world of ITALIAN YOUTUBE! 😀

Watching YouTube is without question one of the easiest ways to practice Italian listening skills and to learn new vocabulary.

There are a ton of reasons why watching YouTube (and recommending it to students if you are a teacher!) is a helpful to learn Italian:

First of all, most people already love watching YouTube! This makes it super easy to pick up some new channel recommendations and subscribe. Then, if you are feeling motivated (or just can’t find anything else to watch!) you have the easy option of clicking on some awesome Italian content. Chances are, you will learn from and probably enjoy it much more than a typical grammar lesson!

*Remember to keep a pen and paper handy to write down useful words and phrases that you will want to use in the future!*

Second, YouTube is free!

It’s true that there are listening comprehension sites designed for students to learn Italian as a second language. However, much of it is limited unless you are willing to sign up for a subscription. Most is also grammar-focused and limited in context. Not ideal if you are looking to add some fun to your Italian learning!

This leads me to the third reason…

On YouTube, there are a ton of Italian vloggers that make videos designed for viewers of all different ages and interests, not one specific audience!

This makes the Italian that they are using and the subjects they are talking about in their videos relevant and interesting to YOU!

As we know, being engaged (and entertained!) makes learning more enjoyable and it makes you more likely to continue to learn Italian too! So, let’s find them some fun Italian YouTubers and get practicing those listening skills!

Alright, here we go…

#1: Human Safari (travel)

First up, we have Human Safari! This channel is really popular among Italian young people and features both solo and group trips around the world to tons of interesting places like Madagascar and the North Pole!

The vibe in the videos is relaxed, fun, and informative. I love that the videos don’t always include just the main highlights of the places visited. You also get to learn about more “off the beaten path” type attractions and different ways of travelling, such as camping!

As far as the language used, it’s great for learning common Italian expressions as the speech is not too fast. Plus, the videography is really well done so it makes for an enjoyable watching experience!

#2: Learn Italian with Lucrezia (Italian teacher)

Lucrezia’s channel is an absolute MUST for anyone who is learning Italian! There is so much material on this channel that ranges from grammar explanations, frequent daily life vlogs, Italian traditions, to cooking, and more.

Lucrezia has a fantastic personality and she speaks Italian slowly and clearly so that you can follow along with everything. Her explanations are spot on and if she uses words that are more complicated, she makes sure to clarify the meaning before continuing on.

There is material for all different levels of Italian and she often asks her viewers for their input on the kind of videos they would like to see. She truly cares about her channel and it shows!

#3: Breaking Italy (news / current events)

Breaking Italy is a news channel that discusses current events and interesting things happening around the world!

The topics chosen are interesting, relevant, and it’s great to hear an Italian perspective. He also tackles topics that could be controversial such as child immigration in the USA, the AstraZeneca vaccine, and Brexit. Super interesting stuff!

These videos are gold mines for Italian learners who are ready to pick up practical vocabulary that is slightly more advanced to use in conversations that move beyond the typical topics of hobbies, weather, and daily life.

The Italian spoken is generally quite clear and the pace not too fast so the auto-generated subtitles work quite well.

#4: iPantellas (comedy)

iPantellas are all about comedy! They do tons of funny “vs” skits, parodies, and other situational comedy. A few examples are: North vs. South, different types of people at the dentist, different types of video lessons at school, how to find love in 2020, etc.

This channel is really popular and publishes new content quite regularly, often more than once a week.

Because it is comedy, the Italian is harder to understand than the other channels on this list but if you want a challenge and a good laugh, check it out!

#5: In viaggio col tubo (travel)

Giorgio and Martina host this travel YouTube channel where they visit tons of beautiful places and give their recommendations about what to see, things to eat, and where to stay too.

The places that they visit are usually very scenic and the videos are really well put together.

Their Italian is easy to understand and they don’t speak too quickly. Because of this, the auto-generated subtitles are usually quite accurate.

#6: LearnAmo (Italian teachers)

LearnAmo is a fun, lively language channel that tackles learning Italian in a variety of different ways.

They have the traditional grammar lessons but they also make a lot of cultural videos about festivals, Italian food, superstitions, colloquial expressions, things you should NOT say in Italian, and, like you can see from the one that I linked…. coffee!!

Graziana is a fantastic host who speaks clearly and slowly so the Italian speech is easy to follow, even the more advanced topics. The interesting graphics really help too!

#7: Wildflowermood (travel / lifestyle)

On this channel, Francesca takes you through a variety of alternative travel experiences such as living out of a van, low cost travel, and more traditional travel vlogs as well!

She calls herself a digital nomad and shares her many adventures in her videos. Her Italian is usually quite easy to follow and the auto-generated subtitles are accurate.

In addition to her travels, she also talks about everyday life such as being a YouTuber, fitness, food, and maintaining minimalist lifestyle.

#8: Link4Universe (space / astronomy)

As a person who loves astronomy, this is one of my FAVOURITE channels! Adrian is a passionate, engaging and knowledgeable host who truly loves astronomy.

There are so many interesting videos that range from explaining scientific concepts related to astronomy, to updates on space missions, to information about technology in development, and so much more!

If you are a space nerd, or perhaps even have a passing interest in learning more about the world beyond Earth, you will truly love the content on Link4Universe.

For people who are just starting out in Italian, I would hold off on this channel as the language is more advanced due to the subject matter that is discussed. Still interested, I would recommend starting with the informational videos and then moving on from there. It’s definitely worth it!

#9: The Pillow (world / interesting stories)

This fun channel is all about documenting interesting places and stories from around the world! Lots of their popular videos include asking people from other countries their opinions about Italians or aspects of Italian culture too.

There are lots of unique videos about topics. These include: the largest labyrinth in the world, a town that pays you to live there, staying at the cheapest hotel in Italy, whether strangers trust Italians, and more!

The Italian is easy to follow and the subject matter of the videos will keep you interested!

#10: Learn Italian with Italy made Easy (Italian teacher)

The last Italian language YouTube channel I chose to include is Learn Italian with Italy Made Easy!

Manu is a wonderful host and he has a wide variety of Italian lessons on his channel. He has entire lessons devoted to vocabulary for different topics that are not usually covered. These include: cars, at the gym and cosmetics, as well as grammar lessons and tons of listening practice too.

His Italian is very clear and he uses frequent subtitles to help with understanding. For many of his instructional videos, I find his Italian to be particularly slow which is really useful if you are just starting out!

#11: The Random Walker (travel)

The Random Walker is all about wandering to fun places around the world and sharing the experiences!

One thing that I really enjoy about this channel is how in-depth the guides are. Instead of being 5-10 minutes, some of his videos are 30 minutes or more! This gives you the chance to get into the place he is visiting and also to follow a longer “story” in Italian.

As you hear the same accent for longer, it is easier to pick out phrases and new vocabulary to keep for later! Always a plus!

#12: Jakidale (technology / variety)

Jakidale is a channel that has an eclectic assortment of videos. I actually wasn’t sure what kind of channel to call this because he talks about so many different things!

He has videos on topics such as: things he finds interesting, improvements he makes to various objects, cool technology, a few travel vlogs, unboxing videos, and more!

His spoken Italian is quite clear and relatively slow for this type of channel. He uses some text in his videos as well and the auto-generated subtitles are quite accurate aside from the moments of quick speech.

The audience for this channel is younger than some of others that I’ve mentioned. However, there is such a great range of content that there is something for all technology-loving viewers!

#13: Massimo Polidoro (psychology / phenomena)

Massimo Polidoro calls himself “l’esploratore dell’insolito” (the explorer of the unusual) and that is what this channel is all about!

He talks about all sorts of interesting mysteries, theories, and unexplained happenings and takes a scientific / rational perspective to look at them.

To give you an idea of the content, he has a few main categories that he divides his videos into:

1) Incredibile ma vero (Incredible but true), 2) Psicologia dell’insolito (Psychology of the unusual), 3) Storia insolita (Unusual history), and 4) Il complotto quotidiano (The daily conspiracy).

Massimo is very articulate and has clear Italian so he is relatively easy to follow, especially with the auto-generated subtitles!

If you have a curious mind, you will love this channel!
